Living the E Life
Being an entrepreneur can be as challenging as it can be enjoyable. We've found that embracing 10 mindsets helps to give you a framework to move through the challenges toward a fulfilling entrepreneurial life. Let's dive into the next mindset.
Here's mindset #4:
Integrate your why & your values.
I'm sure many of us have tried to morph and change to fit into a job, a culture, or an organization. I don't know about you, but that square peg - round hole vibe isn't for us.
Unlike when you work for someone else, as an entrepreneur, there is no mission, no vision, no goals, and no values until you create them. And, when we understand our why and our values, we have a much better chance of creating a business that we love - one that truly reflects who we are, who we want to be, and what is most important to us.
If you haven't clarified the reason you want to be an entrepreneur or what is most important to you, or if it's been a while since you've sat down with your why and your values, here are a few questions we'd offer for reflection:
Why is it important to you to own and operate your own business?
Why is private practice a better fit for you than another job?
Why are you ready to take on the challenges and uncertainty that are inherent in being an entrepreneur?
Why now?
What really matters to you?
What do you want your life and your work to be about?
What personal strengths or qualities do you want to incorporate in your business?
How do you want to show up (for yourself, with others, in spaces)?
When you identify and understand your why and your values, then you can better integrate them in your business - like in decisions you make about services or products, technology you use, who's a good fit, your pricing, boundaries you set, and what gets a "yes" from you, to name a few. These will also help you to show up in a way that feels authentic and meaningful - to you and those who you get to support through your business.
It's important to re-evaluate your why and your values over time, as these can change along your entrepreneurial journey when your life changes and priorities may shift. Keep coming back here as home base, and adjust as needed.
Key Takeaway: Your why and your values are the foundation for building the business of your dreams.
